Important Documents:

Articles of Incorporation
Read the Articles of Incorporation. The IJLB was incorporated in June 2024, under the Iowa Revised Nonprofit Corporation Act of 2024. The articles lay out a few simple obligations for the initial directors, who should be comprised of duly elected members of the Provisional Steering Committee, namely to hold a General Meeting by the end of the calendar year, where bylaws they propose must be approved by majority vote by the membership.
These Articles were reviewed and approved by a Jewish, socialist, anti-Zionist member of the National Lawyers' Guild before filing.
The corporation may be amended or dissolved by a three-fourths majority of the initial Board of Directors, i.e., the Provisional Steering Committee.
Note that we have not chosen a nonprofit filing status yet; there are several options available, such as 501(c)5 (labor organization) or a workers' cooperative. There are many considerations here, including what limits such choices have on our ability to engage in political activity.
Iowa Revised Nonprofit Corporation Act of 2024
Read the Iowa regulations on nonprofits. The Act specifies democratic standards for governance of any non-profit organization with members.
Federal Volunteer Protection Act of 1997
Read the Volunteer Protection Act here. The FVPA shields volunteers of non-profit organizations from civil suits relating to any activities directed by the organization.
